THE CAMILLIAN WAY OF CARING

“We offer hope and meaning to those who are suffering, comfort and security to those who are aging, and serenity to those who are dying, taking into account each person’s innate dignity, unique needs and God given rights…”

The person is at the heart of caring relationships fostered by the Camillian Fathers. Personal dignity is of paramount importance and become the heart of the health care endeavors of the Order.

The Camillians consider sickness as a consequence of sin. Healing therefore is an essential aspect of the saving mission of Christ. The Order has received from God, through St. Camillus, the gift of witnessing to the world the ever-present love of Christ for the sick. The charism of mercy towards the sick animates and unifies all the efforts and activities of the Camillians and gives them this unmistakable character. The love and care for the sick specifies the Camillians from other religious institutes.

“It is our desire to serve all the people with the same affection a loving mother has for her only sick child.”

Faithful to the charism and purpose by which the Order is founded, the Camillians minister to the sick in the totality of their being. This is the spirituality of the Camillians.

The Camillian Fathers offer health care that respond to the sick as a whole person. Camillians take in the sick person as whole persons in their approach towards them. They believe that in caring for their sick bodies, they are also caring for their souls. By the promotion of health, the treatment of disease and relief of pain, the Order cooperates in the work of God our creator. In relieving and comforting the sick, the Camillians pay attention to their psychological condition and to their family and social problems. The Camillians promote health and engage themselves in preventive health care. Through their hospitals, they treat those who are ill and curable and are involve in curative health care. In their convalescent homes and institutions for the disabled and the aged, they exert efforts to relieve the pain of those who have no hope for recovery, the terminally ill and the dying. The Order also actively offers counseling and spiritual direction for patients, families and friends, and care workers.

By assuming any service in the health care world, the Camillians put themselves at the service of the sick person in order to create a better human, and a better Christian climate around them.
