Success of Project Margarita relies on the participation of the Aetas. Self-reliance is both goal and foundation.

Human formation and education aims to enable the tribes to understand their existing conditions of impoverishment and marginalization, They are enlisted to identify their health care needs and prioritize their resources according to the urgency of these needs. They are also consulted actively in the screening of potential scholars and health leaders.

Project Margarita is all about the collective and efficient efforts of the Aetas to address their own problems and to develop their capabilities to respond to their needs. Sensitive to the cultural identity of the tribes, the project encourages the improvement of customary health practices and their incorporation into the health delivery system.
