The Eden Alternative to Aging seeks to address the three plagues of old age – loneliness, helplessness and boredom.

Loving companionship is the antidote to loneliness. Camillus MedHaven is an Elder-centered community where residents have easy access to companionship with nature or people. At Camillus MedHaven, human growth is never separated from human life.

As an antidote to helplessness, Camillus MedHaven creates opportunity for the elders to give as well as receive care. Residents are also encouraged to participate in deciding the care that they need. Being an Elder-centered community, Camillus MedHaven eliminates the top-down bureaucratic authority in elderly care, seeking instead to place the maximum decision making authority into the hands of the Elders or into the hands of those closest to them.
